The Addiction They Don't Talk About
The United States just invaded the sovereign country of Venezuela. Whatever you think of this foreign policy action, the reason they gave was drug trafficking - specifically Fentanyl.
Everyone knows the United States has a drug addiction problem. Back in the 90’s we fought a war on smoking. Now we have vaping.
Support groups have been around for a long time to combat alcoholism.
Yet one of the country’s largest addictions doesn’t have much support or interventions. On the contrary, much of the media and other organizations encourage it.
We just finished the Christmas and New Year’s holidays. This time of year the addiction is pushed more than any other time except maybe Halloween or someone’s birthday.
You can probably guess it. It’s sugar.
It is estimated that the US consumes 300% of the recommended daily allowance (RDA) for sugar every day. And is the RDA even accurate?
Sugar is estimated to be in 75% of the packaged foods in the US. Millions are addicted worldwide.
Sugar has been linked to all kinds of chronic diseases:
Diabetes
Cancer
Heart disease
Alzheimer’s
Kidney disease
Sugar is everywhere. Even hospitals and other medical establishments serve sugary foods to their patients. I see it all the time in my assisted living homes. Hospices bring it in the form of protein drinks. When we send people to the hospital, they serve our residents soda and things like apple sauce.
Yet officially sugar is not classified as an addictive substance. Here is what Harvard says about it:
“This is a heavily debated topic. Alcohol, nicotine, and opiates are all classified as addictive substances based on strict clinical criteria, and although sugar has been shown to increase cravings and compulsive eating behaviors, technically it’s not classified as an addictive substance based on current clinical criteria.”
How is ‘increase cravings and compulsive eating behaviors’ not addictive?
We all know it’s hard to stop.
Do you have a problem with sugar? I did for a long time. Through a lot of pain, relapsing and struggle, I think I have pretty much beaten it.
I still slip a little here and there. But I can’t tell you how much better I feel without sugar in my diet.
Recently I was invited to speak at the ‘Quit Sugar’ virtual summit, to be held online next week, January 12-18. It’s totally free to join and listen to the 47+ names of speakers. There will be a follow up access to all the talks on January 23-25.
There will be some great speakers for this summit. Frankly I’m surprised I made the cut:
Dr Anthony Chaffee
Dr Nick Norwitz
Craig Emmerich (we use his recipes in our assisted living homes)
Dr Sean O’Mara
Dr Robert Lufkin
Dr Heather Sandison (who started an assisted living home to implement the Bredesen Protocol)
If you’re not familiar with these names I highly recommend you look them up. There are a whole lot more big names at it as well.
We have one objective - to help people kick the sugar habit. Mike Collins - the guy who started these conferences, has had some tremendous success stories from people who attended and were able to remove sugar from their diet.
You have to register before the summit starts next Monday. You can just watch the people you want. If you’re struggling with sugar, this may be the motivation you need.
