The MAHA Inauguration Ball Backstory
I’ve had a very interesting couple of days.
Let’s back it up a bit.
About a year and a half ago Dr Shawn Baker invited me to come on his podcast based on a response I gave to one of his Twitter (‘X’) posts.
From that podcast Dr Eric Berg reached out to me and we had several conversations about low-carb diets in my assisted living homes. Nothing really came of those conversations so we parted ways.
About 3 weeks ago, Dr Berg reached out to me again. He told me he had a table at the inauguration ‘MAHA Ball’ on that Monday night. He would be talking to some very important people and wanted some input on assisted living.
I was very honored and more than happy to help. I reached out to the people who helped me run my business and asked them to send me their case studies, recommendations and solutions to improve the health of the United States:
Kari Camp, my health coach and the one who trains our cooks how to make low carb meals
Eric Collett from A Mind for All Seasons who treats lots of people with cognitive issues
Claud Covaci, the CEO of the software startup Synkwise that helps us run some of our assisted living homes
Eric and Kari had some great success stories of their clients healing with their help. Claud had some amazing statistics based on data he pulled from all his assisted living clients. Some statistics that really stood out from Claud’s research were:
Many assisted living residents were on an enormous amount of medications - a large population were taking around 47 medications a day!
The assisted living resident with the most medications had 90 prescriptions they were taking.
NINE-ZERO!
How does that not harm someone? How do caregivers even keep track of that many medications?
Dr Berg loved the data. And thanked my by putting one of my promotional videos on his Instagram. Last time I checked it was over 11,000 likes. The guy is popular.
A few days later, Dr Berg called me again.
“Hey Hal, one of my invited guests dropped out. They couldn’t make it. Would you like to come instead?”
Would I? I jumped at the chance. There’s a wave of change happening in healthcare in the United States. I certainly want to be part of it.
I bought a plane ticket, rented a tuxedo and packed my bags.
Last Friday I arrived in DC. My parents live in Virginia so I had a place to stay. Not to mention it’s great to see my parents. I’m very fortunate to have a Mom and Dad who are doing great in their mid-eighties.
Dr Berg and a bunch of healthcare experts invited me to a lunch at a restaurant and visit to his home on Sunday. One of the highlights was meeting Nina Teicholz who may be picked to rewrite the FDA food guidelines.
On Monday we all put on our tuxedos and attended the MAHA Ball. I met so many amazing people there who were incredibly enthusiastic of what I am doing in my assisted living homes.
I posted on ‘X’ some of the people I met.
I’m not sure where all this is going. A lot of people asked for my business cards (which I forgot and had to have my wife send to me overnight at a cost of $125!). I can’t thank Dr Berg enough. And I thought you might like to hear the story.
