Is the Carnivore Diet Really Expensive?
People ask me that question a lot.
From families, to people on social media, to owners and managers at other assisted living facilities.
I’ve done a few podcasts and that question inevitably comes up as well.
Sooo…is it?
It depends on how you measure it. If you take a steak and compare it to a basic salad, it might seem expensive.
That’s not the way to compare. A single meal won’t save you much money.
Most people want to know about their overall food budget. Over time.
The carnivore diet is certainly simpler than most diets. Just beef, chicken, fish, eggs and other animal products. If you’re like me it really cuts down on your time grocery shopping.
My wife used to send me to the grocery store with at least one item on the list that took me FORRREVVERRR to find. Now I’m in and out in a very short time.
Another problem you have with non-carnivore food is spoilage. At least the food that is not ultra-processed and can survive a nuclear war.
Sure meat can go bad. But you can also freeze it. Freezing fruits and vegetables isn’t always the best option. When they go bad and you have to throw them out, you are throwing money out as well.
Then there’s the restaurant thing. As you eat more like a carnivore, many restaurant menus will not seem as tantalizing. The people I know who are carnivore, including myself, eat out far less often. Given this economy and the inflation going on, it can save you a lot of money by eating at home.
Compare the price of steak at a grocery store vs a restaurant steak.
Speaking of eating less, you might find yourself eating less at home as well as at restaurants. Cutting out carbs reduces your cravings. Especially if you’re eating more fat that can be satisfying without cravings.
You may find you’re skipping meals on a regular basis. You’re just not that hungry. Meat is some of the most nutritious food there is. You won’t feel like you're deficient in something as much. You’ll feel satisfied more.
Drinks can save you money. The carnivore diet really stays away from everything but water. And maybe coffee if you’re so inclined. Giving up alcohol can save you a ton of money. As can giving up lots of sugary drinks.
I won’t deny that meat can be pretty expensive these days. Especially beef. There are ways to lower the cost.
Recently I wrote a guide to keeping costs low on the carnivore diet. You can find it at the website ‘carnivoreonabudget.com'. I thought it would be good to help people overcome their biggest objection to eating this way.
Honestly I also wrote the guide to gain more email subscribers. I want to spread the news more about how you can take care of your own health. But I still hope it helps you out if you’re interested.
