Avoiding or Mitigating Dementia, for Less than Dining Out 1x/Month

Dining out these days is becoming expensive. The average cost of dining out in the United States is in the $15-$25 range in the United States.

Compare that to eating at home which averages about $4.23/meal. Not to mention you avoid the processed food, the seed oils, the loud atmosphere, the traffic and the tip.

Ok I get it. You need to leave the house from time to time. Cabin fever can gnaw at you. There’s a reason restaurants are in business.

I highlight these restaurant costs because I want to encourage you to eat good food at home. There’s a lot of evidence suggesting links between processed food, seed oils and sugar and dementia or other chronic diseases.

Another way to help mitigate or at least reduce your chances of chronic disease and dementia is to work with the people I work with in my assisted living homes.

If you’ve been a subscriber to my emails for any length of time, you’ve probably read about A Mind for All Seasons (AMFAS). They’re a company based in Idaho that really help me with the dementia therapies we offer to our residents.

They have a wonderful community where they provide lots of information to help you and/or your family members fight off dementia or help you care for someone who has the problem.

They’re also very good with some other chronic diseases such as diabetes.

Now here’s the tie-in to the restaurant and eating out. Joining this community for just $25/month is about the cost of eating in a restaurant once a month. So by joining and not eating out, you can really help your chances of keeping your brain engaged for a long time to come.

The community has a lot of benefits:

  • Office hours where one of their clinicians hangs out on a video call weekly to answer any of your questions or help out in any way they can

  • Master classes - Randy Vawdrey, the medical director for AMFAS, will go deep into a subject surrounding brain health for about an hour on a regular basis. All the classes are recorded and you can watch them any time you want. There is a Q&A period after each class as well.

  • A guidebook to their ‘Enhance Protocol’ which is what we use for our assisted living residents

  • Nutrition tips, recipes and cognitive health tools

  • A link to the website ‘Full Script’ where you can purchase supplements at a 20% discount - and unlike Amazon, you don’t have to worry about whether the supplements are authentic

The folks at AMFAS have agreed to give a free month to readers of this newsletter. Just input the discount code APFP (A Paradise for Parents) at checkout for your free month. That way you can try it out and see if it’s for you, without any financial commitment.

Or you can spend that first month’s $25 buying good whole food at the grocery store rather than a restaurant.
